The beginning - Today: LunarSAT DT/G (Distributed Team/Greece), as idea started in the spring of 2000, when one of our members established contact with the PO/E (Public Outreach & Education) Division of the mission. So, there was an open invitation for interested people and after a few meetings it resulted to our team. At this moment our team consists of 9 members currently developing this web site. The work that we are presenting this period, is part of our ongoing cooperation with the PO/E division, which has recognized the ability of our team to represent LunarSAT in Greece. Who are we? All the members of the Greek team are post - graduate students at the department of Physics in University Of Athens. Our interests vary from Astrophysics and Astronomy to Electronics and Computers. Although, our team's participation to the project, is not based on a University's project, we should note that the University is prodiving unofficially some support. This help became factual with the supply of workspace, the ability of using the department computers and web space in University's servers in order to create this web site. Goals of the Greek team: During this period and for some months in the future, our team will cooperate with the PO/E division of the project. Our basic goal is mainly educational: to promote the idea of space science and astronautics to the youth of Greece through the presentation of the LunarSAT mission. We believe that this effort, recently gained great value, while in January 2001, Greece decided to take an active role in space age, by signing a special cooperation contract with ESA. According to this agreement Greece will be a formal member of European Space Agency in a few years. So, the citizens of our country will have the opportunity to deal with space exploration and science more actively. A possibility inexistent to date. Maybe LunarSAT, will help in making the first step... Along with the above educational activities, our team aims to take part in the design or execution of the mission. This, of course, will depend on our work, but your response will also play an important role. Every question or remark about LunarSAT, our web site or anything else you consider relevant will help us to become better... |
